I just noticed this bot account on the sitewide 9x9 ladder. Are bots allowed on the ladder? I’ve never seen that before. I guess I don’t personally have a problem with it being there, but it would kind of be a bummer if we wound up with zero humans in the top 10
I disagree with not having a problem with it, I think bots should be banned from ladders/tournaments and the like, unless it’s a ladder/tournament specifically made for allowing bots
Nope, they are not. Thanks for pointing it out, i removed it from the ladder!
I wish we had a bot that hung out at the bottom and challenged inactive players
…and another bot in a ladder:
AFAIK the only OGS ladder/tournament where bots are allowed is the Alan Turing tournament, which was founded way back before AlphaGo when bots were mid-dan level. I played some interesting games against a “centaur” of an sdk playing with Fuego, can’t recall if it was in that tournament, or may have been impetus for creating it.
Thanks fixed
Lol the name is Sukuna but the profile pic is Violet Evergarden
I read the group rules and although this is a bot group, the group rules don’t say that bot accounts can participate in the ladder.
I think bots must be explicitly allowed to participate in the ladder, otherwise it will be unfair to uninformed people!
KataGui40b is one of the group admins, so I suppose they gave themself permission to join the ladders private group is very different to the 3 public site ladders. Think it’s fine for each group admin to enforce however they see is best.
I know he is an administrator.
He can create a ladder that allows bots to join, no problem.
But the problem is that he doesn’t state this on the group description.
I didn’t know there were bots on this ladder, and had no chance of finding out it was a bot when I posted the challenge (because challengeable players on the ladder are blue, not gray for bots.)
Maybe this is more something to discuss inside the group. Sometimes things may look obvious for a group member but not for a newcomer. I mean it’s a group about bots so it’s not that weird to meet them in their ladders.
