A few years ago I went to a competition. The number of player was odd, so a 25k child was asked to play against a 2k. The 2k took white and calculated so that the 25k was ahead on the board by 3 points, but lost by 4 points because of komi. I was quite impressed.

In Japan me and my son (15k) played simultaneous against a top amateur with resp. 5 stones and 9 stones. While he crushed me, he beat my son by 1 point. I was quite impressed.

There is a similar old story i heard about a westerner meeting some CJK master. Played 9 stones, the ama win by 1 point then 8 stones win again by 1 point then 7… When reaching even the master gives 9 stones again and this time wins by 1 point.
