I am trying to rank up my blitz 9x9 rank. I set up the custom game with 9x9, blitz setting and any rank possible. After I win, my live rank is getting higher but my blitz rank stays the same. Is that a bug?
It looks buggy to me.
The rating system is showing that it thinks the last blitz game you played was on Nov 10
Clearly, from your game history, this is not the case.
I could guess that the recent addition of “rapid” is messing something up
@anoek ?
10s/move games never counted in blitz rank
that bug was forever
Isn’t it strange that we added a rapid time category but not a rapid rank?
Curious, do custom time games such as this one also not count? GoMagic Online League Match
And what time setting do I need to improve my rank?
A ranked game,as written in the game info, counts.
As long as you don’t modify komi and you play on a 9, 13 or 19 square board, a ranked game will count.
Categories are only used for statistics, not for specific calculation or pairing system.
Right, but it’s still a meaningful goal to “improve my blitz rank”.
Yeah - we can confirm that the most recent “blitz” games were ranked “live” for the OP:
It’ll take some digging to find out what speed is needed to get ranked into blitz, I’ll see if I can find out.
Yeah, I’m not sure about this - one could say that now “the category of game timing you chose is more clearly disconnected from the speed types of ranking”
(Since there are 4 of the former and only 3 of the latter)
Yes … but … there is a twist.
“Online League” games are “ranked” BUT their rank counts to the online league rank, NOT the OGS rank.
This irritating confusion came about when the Online League folk decided at the last moment (from my perspective) that Online League games should not count towards OGS rank.
Fortunately, in the time that Online Leagues have been running (2 years?) this is only the second time that anyone’s actually noticed this .
That’s amazing. It makes me curious why they asked this. So if I understand well they use the OGS ranking system but only for themselves. Why? Is that they are so humble they don’t want to disturb the rating with pedagogic games or is it because they form a super elite which can’t bother to mix with the commoners?
Well, they would want to use the OGS ranking system because it’s already there - they don’t have to make anything new.
And they would like the rank calculated from only the pool of games that they made - the “League Games”.
These two things make sense: we do calculate (separately) a league-rank for their members based on only-league games.
I suspect the reason they don’t want these games to affect OGS rank is that they don’t want their members “avoiding a league game because it might mess up their OGS rank”
Then they shouldn’t be labeled ranked games but unranked.
Yes - it is easy to say that.
It was not so easy to make that happen, at the time I was doing it.
A measure of how much this actually matters is: this is only the second time in the whole operating life of Online Leagues that someone has noticed.
Well anyway thanks for your honesty to talk about it.
Hehe. Thanks for explaining.
I was excited after winning an even game against a +3 rank
