Blocking a user

Hello, if I block a user, will that interfere with the two ongoing games we have? Or will it affect only future interactions?

Also, will that affect this player negatively in any way? I wouldn’t want that. It’s just that this player comes up all the time for correspondance game and I have played him many times and would rather take a pause.

Thanks

You actually do not block anybody except yourself. You are blocking your ability to start a game with them, observe announcements from them or messages in chat. Their messages is still there. In public game chat message of blocked user is visible to everyone except you.

Only one way to find out!

Sweet, thanks for the clarity.
That answers the question!

Actually, if you select the second “type” of block, you do block them from accepting your open challenges.

My impression is that this does not stop them challenging you in a ladder or being paired in a tournament (unverified).

I’m unclear whether they can send you a direct challenge - one would hope not.

Do they see it directly as “user block you”? I think this behavior is wrong. I suppose that is should be something like that for them.

Unverified? If it affect ladder or tournaments it is a bug. Please verify it. Can it lead in elimination tournament to never ending glitch?

I wonder why you’re asking me to verify it?

Couldn’t you just as easily?

Would you rather I stop working on moderation tools, UI improvements, all the other stuff, and take a look at that instead?

A great place to test this sort of thing is https://beta.online-go-com you’re welcome to create multiple accounts there and challenge yourself.

also, if i remember correctly you have to take careful note when blocking someone, as you can only unblock them if you remember their name..

That was true, I think, a long time ago, but it was fixed. You can go to your settings, to “Blocked Players” in the list, and see everyone you have blocked currently. You can unblock them by clicking the checkmark(s) off next to their name.

I didn’t notice this detail. May be it is better to ask them not to accept your correspondence challenges for a while.

The purpose of the ignore list is to protect yourself from the annoying actions of others. It can be used for the described intention. But for me it is not polite enough to enforce without asking before.

No I can’t because it is the automatic matching system. I cannot accept or refuse a player. I’m just matched and the game starts. That player has something like 700 games at once and I end up winning because of time.

Although I wouldn’t mind in a ladder or tournament all that much.

But for the regular day to day games I kinda do.

I lost track of what we’ve established here.

I still understand it to be the case that if you block the user in the right way, they can’t accept your regular games.
