They are part of a university research project: a language model (Qwen3-8B) fine-tuned with RL to play 9x9 Go, no search at play time. Each account serves one model variant so we can compare their human-calibrated 9x9 ratings. GnuGo is used only as gtp2ogs’ ending_bot (to decide when to pass/resign).
Setup (gtp2ogs 9.0.x): 9x9 only, ranked only, no handicap, live/rapid only, max 1 game per player, ~1–2 s per move, waits for challenges only. The bots may go offline when our shared GPU is needed; we decline new challenges first and let running games finish.
