What’s the bot with a minimum skill level that can still teach you something (for someone in the rank 20k-25k), punishes you for silly mistakes, and doesn’t make huge blunders? Is this a thing? The novice bots make exploitable errors, so they’re basically useless.
It doesn’t exist. Maybe strong sdk is the weakest bot you can find that doesn’t make huge blunders.
AI bots aimed at beginners seem to be a difficult goal to achieve for programers

The novice bots make exploitable errors
Even the strongest bots have exploits, so I think the answer is no.
That said, it sounds like you’re looking for a bot that won’t make too many mistakes, but also won’t crush you. In that case I recommend using KataGo’s human-play features.
20k players make huge blunders all the time. To provide for a helpful (and fun) learning experience, my opinion is that the bot should make similar blunders at a similar rate as the player does. If it made no major blunders then it would outpace the player in the early game, and the rest of the game would be very one-sided, possibly frustrating and likely depriving them from learning about situations that normally come up in balanced games.
But it is also true that the blunders bots make can be quite different from what humans do. So I do agree human-style play is a good suggestion for learning.
To get opponents that play more like 20-25k humans, you could also just play against 20-25k humans.
Last year I had a wait time of approximately … 0 seconds. I don’t know if I was always lucky, but a match was found almost instantly. If this was still the case … but unfortunately, now depending on the time of the day, sometimes I have to wait 7, 8 minutes … hence my interest in bots.
I agree, in relation to the bot’s blunders of the early game. But what I think is important is that the bot doesn’t ignore my blunders and punish them, at least the most obvious ones.

Bingo! Well, I’ll wait for it to be implemented somewhere online in a more user-friendly environment
Try 20bTurboLz-Elf-v1, it’ll probably beat you by 0.5.
I think it only cares about winrate. So it’ll capitalise on your mistakes and then let you do whatever you want until it wins by a small margin
That’s the style of the old zero bots.
Oh, that’s frustrating
I’m curious: do you use automatch or custom games? If you use automatch, what are your settings?
I use automatch more often, a little bit biased to lower levels, so usually from -4 to +2. Sometimes I still get the instantaneous experience, but it’s getting more uncommon every time.
Oh, I forgot to say this information. No, I just select one option, in my case I like Byo-Yomi
with the longest main time, but I choose “flexible”. Handicap disabled.
Perhaps you’d get a game faster if you allowed more options. Assuming you are confortable with playing at other speeds and/or with handicap of course.
Sure, I believe the option with the largest amount of time is ideal, but I think I can give it a try with the other type of time setting.
