So Ipad has a feature that if you double tap the black line in the bottom of the screen siri pops up. Well that’s right where the navigation is for the board controls and I have a fat thumb lol. It has been mentioned before that it would nice to have the navigation on the right information side bar instead of under the board but maybe this is a good reason for it.

If you remove navigation from there terrible things could happen. Board will expand. During the game when you try to play at 1 row Siri will pop up to prevent your move. It is AI rebellion 
I think it is not an OGS UI issue. You should disable Siri completely. It is useless.
But I still agree that it would nice to have the navigation on the right information side bar under the graph. But not full navigation bar. Just to buttons. Step forwards and step backwards. For coarse steps you can tap the graph.

Could have 2 boards, one for the game and one for study (AI, JE, reviews…)

Open a new tab if you need a new board.
By avoiding doubling some functionalities you can save a lot of space if you keep both in the same tab, and get more functionalities (like some pattern recognition linked with JE as suggested in another thread) too. Globally let say your QoL could raise up significantly.
