He still had a beard when I saw him last year.
(photo from 2017 when he was 78yo)
Matthew Macfadyen
I suspect some might not even know who he was even when they heard his name, despite being the one who made the Chinese fuseki famous.
Ooo, itâs
Catalin Taranu 5p
Guo Juan 5p
and Saijo Masataka 9p
Nice pictures and smiles, remember the picture of Guo Juan from a decade and a half ago ^^
This is technically not a guess âwho are the legendsâ problem, and here are some latest photos of famous Go players attending the award ceremony for the 8th Annual World Collegiate Students WEIQI Championship last month, and I suspect some are not famous enough for most to recognize (besides the students)
At first I thought you meant growing a beard, so the picture of Guo Juan confused me for a moment.
There seems to be a lack of women Go legends, and here is a photo of a group of them from Nihonkiin. And at least one of them is still alive today (I think I can only recognize three of them in the photo). The rest is anyoneâs guess.
I guess the older Lady in the middle is Kita Fumiko, the mother of womenâs go.
To the left behind her might be Sugiuchi Kazuko.
Gennan quiz 100% (got the chance to play with all of them)
Yours last 0% sorry about it.
Kita Fumiko and Sugiuchi Kazuko were in the photo and ç„ææ„ć(Kanbayashi Haruko) on the lower right in the front line. Most of her students were also likely in the photo, just not sure who was who. (And I donât think Sugiuchi Kazukoâs sisters were in the photo, one was too young at the time, and one wasnât Kita Fumikoâs student)
The one on the furthest right and on the right side in both pictures was a not-so-famous, but very important Go player whose proposal affected every modern player. They also include legendary players who already appeared in previous replies. (and the second picture is from a newspaper scan, so I donât believe any digital copy exists on the Internet yet)
Ooo itâs an old picture of Go Seigen and Kitani Minoru in the second :o
No, they didnât show up in either of the photos.
Ohh, it almost looked like it.
In the first, is there Segoe Kensaku in the left ?
Yes. Also one of the players in the first photo is a Taiwanese player.
At the moment I am browsing through a pile of old Dutch Go Magazines (from mid seventies) Purpose: writing a sort of history of the magazine for our Dutch digital Go Bulletin.
In doing so I encounter a lot of photos of legendary players. Comes a time I will share them with you, so that you can make your guess
One hint: photo was taken in 1981.
Can you guess who âŠ
Rob van Zeijst ?
Correct.
