On thumbnails, long usernames for black player push the clock one line down, making the clock appear on the board. Not a big problem per se, but since both the grid on the board and the stones appear on over the clock, it can be hard to see how much time there is left.

I sympathize. There are several problems with long user names, and I have long advocated for limiting user names to a certain number of characters. One problem, however, is how do we decide what the best number would be. I imagine a lot of people would complain, whatever the chosen number might be. And then there would be the problem of what to do about existing accounts that are over the limit. Would it be possible to grandfather them? I don’t know.
