This is a professional sequence, in which White does take the corner:
I think the linked position has everything moved one line to the right. 1 is at a 3-5 point rather than a 4-5 point.

Ah, excellent catch!
The same core idea applies, though, which is that White first breaks Black’s shape with the thrust and then pushes on the second line.
