Somebody asked me to elaborate and I made demo that is more well… elaborate than I intended.
I figured other DDKs might also find it useful.

I like it. It’s a good review and a good illustration of this fundamental point. I left a question in the comments…
I’m a 4k and still struggeling with how to use walls. So I’m not sure about that restriction.

The title is not quite the right proverb “don’t use thickness to make territory” as it misses an important nuance that not all walls are thickness. So if your wall is not thickness but weak you might want to make some territory with it to make eyespace.
