Eurgo: a mobile app for Go players in Europe

Hi all,

I’ve been working on a small mobile app with a few tools for Go players in Europe:

  • View your EGD rating and tournament history

  • View the same for other players and favourite your friends

  • Receive notifications whenever your (and/or your friends’) rating changes

  • View upcoming European events (taken from the EGF calendar)

The app is now ready for “closed beta” testing on Android phones - if you’re interested in trying it out (which would be a help to me…) please send me an email (matt@crazedbytes.net) and I will invite you to the beta (you’ll then install the app through the Google Play Store just like normal).

I do intend publishing an iOS version too - so if that is of interest then please let me know so that I can decide on priority…

Thanks!

Is a Google account necessary for the Android closed beta?

You need to login to the Google Play Store to be able to access the beta - so if that’s what you mean, then yes.

Why only Europe?

The European Go Federation provide data sources that I have used for this app:

  • The European Go Database has an API to access rating data
  • The EGF provide a calendar feed of Go events in Europe

There’s stuff like Aurora Store to download apps without an account, but with a closed beta I’d assume you have to allow access to the app somehow and that might be impossible without an account.
