Poor him, can’t imagine the frustration to reach the final three times and lose all of them.

I can:

Somewhat:

(British Championship, a much easier title. Lukas has won the Czech championship and the Go Baron loads of times).

The winner/loser feeling/mindset/psychology/whatever else you might call it has levels to it and even though it sounds like a paradox, a person can have both of those mentalities at the same time.
You can find such people in almost every sport or game.
Great players or coaches, otherwise very successful, yet one very title or one very important kind of competition always eludes them. And the more they lose at that, the more they lose their nerve on that particular competition and having won at everything else makes no difference to them when they compete on the thing they keep losing.

Eventually Podpera will either make it to the pros and flourish fast (as it usually happens to all those that had their proverbial shackles lifted after succeeding in finally getting the result they wanted) or his resolve will totally break and he will stop competing for that particular goal, regardless of what he wins outside of that goal.

Both Andrews won the British Championship at least once, and didn’t lose the final three times before that. In addition, Lukas Podpera was the favorite at least in 2019 and 2023.

Yes, hence the somewhat. Benjamain Teuber came 2nd in the German championship many times before finally winning it a few years ago, which he partly attributes to his project AI sensei helping him improve.

Also Lukas has now lost in the final (as there were 2 finals for 2 spots in the 1st qualifier in 2014) 4 times, not 3.
