It would much more convenient if variations saved by the users were exported in the SGF file as SGF variations: this would make following them way easier.
Currently, they appear like “Variation … : C12 C14 B11…” instead.

Yes, you are right. There are several inter-related issues on sgf file creation by OGS server as you can see on the topic “SGF download bugs”, and they are on the “Things that need fixing” list of the developers. I’d think what you described is already included.
During the mean time, you could fix the sgf file yourself if it is a big issue for you, using the info under the topic “SGF file format”.
