The side panel for game controls has a ‘toggle coordinates’ button. Currently it cycles through six label positioning options - this also updates Settings > themes & visuals > board label positioning.
My personal preference for board label positioning happens to be all four sides, and this preference doesn’t change. It’s not as if this morning I want four sides, but in the evening I’ll want bottom-left, tomorrow maybe top-right. I assume that others have a somewhat static preference. I use the ‘toggle coordinates’ button frequently and often overshoot, so need to cycle around again.
The suggestion is for the Game Controls ‘toggle coordinates’ button to simply toggle between on and off states, using the style at Settings > themes & visuals > board label positioning. Currently, the setting under themes & visuals is largely superfluous, because it’s overridden as soon as the toggle coords button is used.
I guess the reason why the toggle is in the game page, and not somewhere in the settings-pages, is that some people prefer to play most games without cordinates, but have the coordinates on when discussing about the game or doing reviews.
But i agree, cycling thru 6 different options is bit annoying… I either want the coordinates totally off, or have the coordinates on all sides of the board. I would rather just switch between those 2 settings on the fly without the need to cycle thru all possible locations >___>
So maybe it would be better if people could choose where they want the cordinates in the settings, and the toggle in the right-side panel on the game page would be a simple on/off switch?
I raised this long ago, I guess it was not me a few months ago. It was when we played the “democratic” game because it was a hassle on my phone to switch each time 6 clicks between no coordinate and with coordinates and that did happen very often. And it’s even worse when using a mobile because being a bit far from the board you have to scroll up and down at least to check if you reach the way you want and with this blind scrolling I reached to get some missclick on the board.
So yes I’m a thousand % in favor of the suggestion.
