I don’t even know the great usefulness for that, except for a fun mod, and I also don’t know if it’s possible, but the bar showing who is ahead could be on screen all the time, so both players could see exactly when someone made a blunder, for example.
I would be quite interested in this when observing a game, but less interested to see it when playing a ranked game myself.
I find that sometimes (such as in our game, hah small world) there is a key point that “both players miss” – as a player, I would not want the graph in such situations and would rather play out the game without that information.
That’s called outside assistance and that’s not part of OGS allowance policy.
@mittens Indeed small world
balanced game there (lots of blunders
) Yeah, I always try to check these oscillating points after a match. I would not want to see that too, and this “mod” would surely not be ranked.
@Groin Fair enough. I imagined just as an option that both players need to agree at the beginning of the game, which would of course not be ranked.
Would be good for an observer
You can already log out and get a “strong” score estimate. I think this cheating vector is considered sufficiently inconvenient that it isn’t blocked.
I think it should already be being considered how much this might be being exploited. While I didn’t try it of course I believe all thats needed is to open an incognito windows to the game to access this estimate. Maybe that occurring at the same IP address as a player gets logged for cheating detection though, im not aware of all the details mods have access too. I think this kind of potentially cheat enabling feature should only be available to someone logged in at absolute minimum.
Ok, I think you all convinced me that it’s not a good idea to have that feature easily accessible.
I do think it would be a neat option if only available in private + unranked games! That said, that would make it a lot of work for such a relatively narrow use case.
I don’t think it’s worth thinking through the spectator problem today on OGS, but it’s worth noting the traditional solution to that in sports/esports is delaying the broadcast a brief amount.
