I hope so, because the alternative is sadder.
Let’s say that you know you can play a game, but it might take you six months. Then specify the maximum time as six months. To me, the word “vacation” means time off from something stressful, not a very long time limit.
I know I can typically make at least one move a day, usually more if my opponent responds quickly. But I don’t know if I might be interrupted for a few weeks at some point. So you’d suggest I only play games with at least 4 weeks per move as a time setting, which is roughly a 50th of my typical speed? Well, yes, if that was the only option I’d be out.

I’ve already said twice that my only objection to it as it is now is that apparently it lets you “take a vacation” and make your opponent wait even during a game. All I suggested here was to allow vacation only when not playing a game. How would you like it if you’re playing an interesting game and your opponent forces you to wait for an extra month for their next move?
I’m abolutely fine with that. And there is no reason to say ‘would’, as this has happened to me probably around 100 times so far.

You could be grateful that you were playing an interesting game against that person on OGS, because if there was no vacation feature they might have left to play on DGS instead. Or you wait a week and they time out because they are on holiday and decided not to cancel their family holiday to far flung lands just because they had some games in progress on OGS, so you never get the conclusion of your interesting game.

I don’t remember how we started before we mentioned Blitz Dragon Server, but:
It would be nice to have an option in tournaments to override vacation mode, visible to the players, so they know before they join. Like we do in casual rengo.
It would be nice to be able to remove vacation pause from some of our games, however it should only be available to the player on vacation, not their opponent. Pause should stay as it is. But vacation mode is a site-recognized feature and it should be on my discretion to use it in all my games or not.
I’m all for fast correspondence, but sometimes life happens.
And anyone ready to type "well, maybe don’t play fast correspondence if you can’t manage playing from the hospital!1!!11! ", maybe rethink before you post it?
