My feeling is that hand should be considered a motif.

I’m going to take triangle as the shape (that triangle containing the star). This also matches the stripes.

Match: colors, stripes, the “structure” of the flag.

I’m sorry, but that is a too plain and insufficiently patriotic depiction of the USA flag. Allow me to rectify the situation.

A version with a slightly smaller motif existed 1992–2000.

I think we should have a fourth possible match, field. The field match is how the colours are laid out on the field, eg. in vertical bipartite, horizontal bipartite, diagonal bipartite, vertical tripartite, horizontal tripartite, quadripartite etc.

This property would be removed from its current position in the shape category.

Buckinghamshire, England

Match: motif (crown/s)
Field: vertical bipartite
Shapes: circles (the chain links)

Anyone want to play some more?

I would but may I be so bold as to suggest perhaps a variant? As we already used up many flags. I am a bit stumped as to what could make a good alternative, though.

(draft thought: International maritime signal flags - Wikipedia , or some other set of flags?)

Yeah, it might be more interesting with some restriction – only historical flags, only European flags, only flags with animals, etc.

It’s a little open in its current form.
