Go History: Old picture from the 1st "Ing Computer Goe Cup"

While I was searching the Taiwan Go community history, I ran into this picture of Bruce Wilcox running his Go program Nemesis during the 1st “Ing Computer Goe Cup” in 1985, I believe it was against a program by Taiwanese University students (sadly records of most of the participants and the name of these programs were mostly lost to history, we only know the person’s sitting in front of the computer 杜貴榮)

Another photo of Bruce Wilcox and his Nemesis program during the 1st Ing Computer Goe Cup. But it was against human player on 19x19 board (from the looks of it, 6 handicaps). And the human player is a 7 years old kid 夏銜譽 (He is a famous Go prodigy, and probably already dan strength at the time). And at the time, it was not surprise that the 7 years old kid won handily.

Yes, and he went to Singapore to teach Go in the early 2000s, right?

It was quite a news back then when he gave up a pro career and went to US to study after middle school. And he came back to Taiwan in the 2010s.

Right, I remember playing a few games with him while he was here. He had quite a lot of students.

Does he still play Go?

The latest news I can find about him was this

He is CIO of a Taiwanese food enterprise Dachan Food. And they sponsored a Taiwan amateur Go tournament - Dachan Cup. How much time he has to play Go as recreation or not, only he knows.

Some ancient history here about this tournament.
In Tijdschrift van de Nederlandse Go Bond (Dutch Go Magazine) in December 1986 there was a two page article on this computer go tournament.

On page 24 and 25 Peter Zandveld wrote a review.
