Go Scoring

I just posted a very similar question so sorry to do so again but I genuinely don’t understand how this game is being scored either. It is again badukpop.

well: In that position, which stones are dead?

Oki let’s try to do it “manually”.

Area scoring (Chinese rule)

Seems easy to calculate, due to the symmetrical position.

We don’t care of dead stones, we just compare the whole areas covered by stones and emptyness inside.

Let’s count from top to bottom horizontally.

Black

3x9=27
7
3

So 37 for black.

White

2
6
4x9=36

So 44 in total

Let’s add the 6.5 komi for white

So that’s 50.5 for white

Score final: White wins by 50.5-37= 13.5
Someone tells me what is wrong in my calculation.

Territory scoring (Japanese rules,)

This time we keep the prisoners.

Black territory is 13
White territory is 20

(Count the quadrat dots)

According to the screenshot the balance of prisoners is black having lost 3 more as white (13-10=3 ,that already includes the ones still on the board with the ones taken away during the game). So black territory will be 3 points less.

The komi will add 6.5 more for white

Conclusion
Black has 10 points
White has 26.5 points.

Score white wins by 16.5

i don’t either only very basic setups i can handle most games and iam sure many others are in the same boat, do the same and just say they understand but most don’t, when the game is done have any inkling of whatt the score is. the rules being so complex to understand – simple setups i can count, but real end game setups, when i think i have won, i don’t, when I think I have lost, I don’t.

Most who teach it don’t use a standard real game to show and explain why this stone counts and that one doesn’t, so many are just like you lost but won’t admit it, fear of getting reamed by the know-it-alls here, so don’t ask in the forums for further instructions in exact counting methods. i guess the muddy waters become clear at some point but when is the issue when many just quit and fall by the wayside in frustration there by losing more people playing to this game of go

You need to recognise that your stones in the lower left and lower right don’t have 2 eyes and therefore dead. In a hypothetical scenario (Assuming low left corner is A1), white can play E1, C1, and A1 to kill lower left stones, and F1, G1, H2 to kill lower right stones. Even if these moves are not played, they are still dead stones.

The values 13 and 10 (the 13 next to the black stones and 10 next to the white) in this app represent how many stones you captured during the game, I.e. if there is a 13 next to black, it means black captured 13 white stones during the game, and this does not count any white stones that are dead but not removed when the game is scored.

I don’t think so. Check it. (You have the full game)

For badukpop, the number of captured stone is shown next to the player’s color

(as shown in this screenshot, black captured one white stone).

So yes, for the OP’s game, black captured 13 white stones, white captured 10 black stones.

And this is the correct scoring with area scoring with 6.5 komi (but badukpop doesn’t use area scoring)

The territory scoring result should be
black: 13 territory + 1 dead + 13 capturing = 27
white: 20 territory + 9 dead + 10 capturing + 6.5 komi = 45.5

White won by 18.5

The difference of 5 came from black played more stones (black total 43, white total 38). And I don’t think this is a handicap game, but likely black simply kept playing after white passed several times (self filling).

And badukpop scoring AI is simply very bad at scoring.

Just use Chinese rules, W+14.5

I counted W +13.5 with Chinese rules (see my post for details)

For most area scoring rules, like the Chinese rules, the komi is 7.5 (it was W+7 before komi), in your calculation, you use 6.5 (which is typical for territory scoring komi)
