I’ve been playing around with the code to @le_4TC’s tool and have managed to add a few features I think would be helpful for mobile users (mainly buttons to change color, change board size, and copy the board image). Everything seems to be working in pc and android browsers, but copying still isn’t working on iOS.
I managed to break the z, x, and c “painting” keyboard shortcuts as well. No idea what happened there.

Did you generalize your rule to 9x9 boards? 
The rule holds on 9x9, but that image was an accident. I replaced it with the 7x7

Could the rule be generalized to an 8x8 board without breaking the invariance to rotation and mirroring?
Yes, It could be generalized to any size board.
interesting … I thought the rule somehow checked whether stones had even / odd coordinates or something like that. And on an even-sized board, that would depend on which corner is the center of the coordinate system. Anyway …
Here are some 9x9 examples if they might help. Some of the same positions that have already been submitted, but adjusted for 9x9:

In these examples, the position of each chain relative to their nearest corner, didn’t change. That might be a hint of some kind.
So the 9x9 boards is bigger and with modifications I had made it seems like size does not matter much.
