Just found out today during a stream about a Google Chrome extension for KGS called GoUniverse. Seems to be fully functional and IMO has a better UI than CGoban.
Any KGS players who also use Google Chrome, I recommend checking it out at

BTW, GoUniverse is developed by Ilya Kirilov, the same developer who created the AWESOME Web Go Board extension (an SGF editor that can also export animated GIFs).

Chrome web store says GoUniverse can “read and change your data on files.gokgs.com and www.go.kgs.com.” Should I be worried?

No, those aren’t front facing web pages, you can confirm by trying to go to them normally.
That essentially just means the extension is allowed to talk to its own back-end which it uses to connect to KGS.

  • Solicit or advertise for any competing Go services

Perhaps that condition should be removed? It seems a bit draconian to me.
