Guess the person/ 20 questions

The Game of Life is Turing complete, so that’s 2 points for Conway right there.

Ok, yeah, last one off-topic from me, I pinky-swear.

I could be wrong, but I think his “content” comment was directed at a certain someone not active in this thread.

He has not been dead for more than 20 years. He has died in the last 20 years.

Should I give a hint?

Turing complete just means that they can simulate a universal model of computation, which is relevant to whether something is related to “programming”. However, the other part of the definition is whether something can be called a “language”.

You could answer this one first, perhaps?

Oh, I forgot. No, he is not known for his creative work.

So, a famous Englishman, not known for entertainment, politics, inventions, sports, murdering or arts…

I spent some time at Middle Temple and the Royal Courts of Justice. So the person being a lord justice, barrister, or solicitor would improve my chances of guessing him. :man_shrugging:

No.

I think you guys might need a hint. You can either have a small hint or a big hint

I don’t like hints so much, especially a game that already completely consists of hints (answers to questions).

So we have an unspectacled Englishman, who might or might not be a millionaire, is probably an academic and died in the 21st century.

  1. Was he particularly interested in economics?

I don’t have as much experience as some on this thread, but what I ended up settling on as I ran a few games on this thread was treating it analogously to GMing an RPG. I think the job of the GM is to choose a personage who will take as near as possible to 20 questions in order for the people she is playing with to guess, and to adjust the difficulty with hints and subtle railroading (as a last resort) if it becomes obvious the personage was too hard for the group in question.

So I wouldn’t view hints as a bad or a good thing, just one tool for the GM to use to create an enjoyable experience for the other players.

#14 ruled out Stephen Hawking and many others. I’m starting to doubt if I know the person.
