@HHG said that the person was born in Great Britain, rather than the more specific England. This means he could be Scottish or Welsh. But I don’t know any Scottish or Welsh academics off the top of my head.

If he’s a writer with academic credentials, then it could be Terry Pratchett or Brian Jacques. But I don’t know how to meaningfully word that question, because most academics have also written or published something.
