Handicap for one rank difference is wrong?

Hi. I made 3 games with the exact same settings (auto handicap, auto komi) and for the some reason when there is a one rank difference OGS actually gives handicap to the stronger player (he/she get black while white is playing with 0,5 komi). I believe this should be fixed.

Here are the games in question:
https://online-go.com/game/1942339 -> I’m 10k and the opponent is 9k but I get to play white with 0,5 komi
https://online-go.com/game/1942341 -> I’m 10k and the opponent is 11k but I get black while white is playing with 0,5 komi
https://online-go.com/game/1942340 -> Where there is more than one rank difference OGS gives a correct handicap

I’ve experienced this before but I thought it was just my mistake (like in this game, https://online-go.com/game/1909131). Now I’m sure it’s not my mistake though.

Thanks for your attention.

Look at their overall ranks.

What do you mean?

I looked at their overall ranks. The first player’s overall rank is 12k and his/her correspondence rank is 9k, which mean in both case the handicap is wrong because I’m a 10k in both overall and correspondence. The second player’s overall rank is the same with his/her correspondence rank which is 11k. Lastly, the third player’s overall rank is 17k while his correspondence rank is 16k, so with 6-stone handicap there is nothing wrong in this case.

Interesting. Maybe post your game settings?

…I just realized that in my game settings I have “Random” chosen in the “Your Color” option. That must be why

If I may suggest something, I think it’s better for the “Your Color” option to be enforced as “Automatic” if the handicap is automatic as it would be strange to have the handicap for the stronger player if the player choose black, white, or random as his/her color.

EDIT : Just as I typed this, I accepted a game where the handicap is automatic but the opponent (my) color is black - https://online-go.com/game/1946633. So yeah, I think my suggestion above is worth considering.
