Am new to this site and am still trying to figure out how it all works. I don’t understand how the handicap options work on the site. If I select “required” for the handicap setting, I am expecting that handicaps will be allocated according to the relative ranks of the two players. Frequently, however, I have found komi (6.5) being added to a player with a higher rank. It is almost as if the site is saying we are both the same rank, when we are not. I have also come across the site not providing any handicap stones, even though there is at least a two rank difference between the players. Not sure what is happening here. Any clarification appreciated
Links to the games would be useful.
To link a game, simply copy the address of the game from your browser here (the one you get when you open the game)
Here is one game that I thought should have had a handicap: dougd1 vs. wcopeland118
Here is another game where the komi didn’t seem right. I thought it should have been 0.5, not 6.5: dougd1 vs. doodle2025
Not sure what you are looking at. When you review the game, there is no stone handicap on the board at the start.
1 stone handicap just means a normal game, but White only gets 0.5 point komi.
I understand that, but the rank difference was two, so I thought it should have been a 2 stone handicap for black.
If the rank difference is between 1 and 1.9999 then the correct handicap is 1 stone. Perhaps the rank difference was slightly less than 2.
Not sure how you get rank differences between whole numbers. I would have thought if the system rounds up/down the rank displayed on the game to a whole number, the system would use that to determine handicap.
Look at your homepage. Your current rank is 16.2k. This is the number used to determine handicaps.
Ok, thanks for that.
