This guy friendly invited me to this group:
The rengo lover (online-go.com)
and even made me a co-moderator of another group:
The G.O.A.Ts family (online-go.com)
But asking him how this works was not answered, so I want to leave those groups but don’t find anything in the settings or my profile to do so.
Can anyone shed some light on how to either handle groups, or to leave them please?

I have no experience with OGS groups, but expect that the blue button has changed to Leave Group after you joined this group. If so, clicking it again maybe?

Thanks, but I see no such buttons anymore. Since I am a member - I am straight in there, once I clicke on those groups.
You have to un-admin yourself first. Go to the group page, click on your username and you should see something like this:
As a normal member of your group, I was able to leave the group.
Apparently for admins it is more complicated.

The irony is that I still don’t know how to “unadmin” myself,
and your updated documentation link, btw, does not work.
It does now, hadn’t saved it yet
