How does Rengo work at OGS?

I must admit, I may have cast too wide of a netšŸ˜…. I motion to consolidate future discussion to the other dedicated post:

I just saw some rengo games with autostart of 1000. Is this as stupid as I think it is (most players won’t ever get a move)?

Stupid is in the eye of the beholder I guess… I think it is saying to potential players ā€œthis is going to be a big game, do you want to be part of a record-holding rengo game at OGS?ā€

IIRC the large auto start number ratcheted up like an auction in the early days…

I think it does work exactly like you think. However, the most likely outcome (if the game even starts in the first place) is that many of the players will just resign or time out.

Maybe they enjoy the anticipation of finding out if they get a move

Maybe I should implement ā€œteam-shuffleā€ feature, so no-one knows who’s up next

So it’s basically a ā€œKilroy wasn’t hereā€ internet graffiti wall

We cater for all needs  Well, almost all, except the need for no default rengo setting I guess

I support this idea

Is that an option? What is the default? :joy:

If I want to create a Rengo game and I don’t know what ā€œCasual Rengoā€ is then I’m linked to this post. This post then explains what ā€œsimple timeā€ is and links to the article about ā€œTime Systemsā€ on Sensei’s Library.

Two observations there:

  • The article on Sensei’s Library does not contain the term ā€œsimple timeā€
  • ā€œeach player only has a set time for each moveā€ is a little vague, maybe change this to: ā€œSimple time means a player always has the same fixed amount of time available for each move, with the clock resetting after every turn.ā€

Are you suggesting to edit that post, or does the current doc need changing?

Maybe I should just put a bold link to the current doc in the top post.

FYI the deeplink in the app points to this post and not to the current doc.

I guess in that case I’m proposing to:

  1. Change the deeplink in the app from this post to the current doc. Would look more professional IMO.
  2. Remove the Simple-Time-Link to Sensei’s Library from the current doc because that term isn’t explained on that site.
  3. Instead try to explain what ā€œsimple timeā€ is better in the current doc. For example by using the sentence from my earlier reply.

Ah I didn’t realise we had a link in the app somewhere pointing here - yeah that definitely needs a fix.

Oh, but it is!

No need for any gotcha-type communication between us. I’m trying to work together with you here.

You seem to be right. No idea how I overlooked that yesterday. In the end linking to a third party website can be a security risk anyways though.
I think we () should explain terms like that on our pages.

I winked because I edited the page on Senseis !

The PR for updating the link from the app is also on its way.

We ( ) all have the ability to edit the documentation wiki :innocent:
