How to turn on game start notification?

I just got notified by email of a game that has been running for 2 days, but I did not get notified of the original request to play or of the game start. Are my notifications messed up? How to fix?

Basically if you’re online (connected anywhere from any device) when a notification comes in we don’t send an email, my baseline assumption is that’s what happened here but there are lots of things it could be (email got blocked / spammed, was never sent because of settings, bugs, etc.)

Thank you for the quick response. I have both getting a challenge and game starts turned on, but I didn’t get either notification. I am getting a notification for my turn for each move.
