I spent a bit of time on this, and am hoping you are interested. What do you think?
It looks good. Did you use a 3D fabricator? What is the size, in metric units?
Why make the legs as separate pieces?
I find it more enjoyable. Building something you buy can add a level of satisfaction to it. Also, it is more realistic, which is what I focused on. The dimensions(scaled) are close to perfectly accurate.
What are the dimensions of each stone?
~6.8mm I decided to keep the black and white stones the same size. They are Yunzi shaped. I experimented with double convex, but would take a lot more time to perfect them, as I wasn’t happy with the print quality.
In that case, add the sunken pyramid at the bottom.
I might add the pyramid on the bottom if there is enough demand for it. I will have to recreate the entire goban in blender for it. It might also mess up the 3d printing options I have already created, which took days to perfect.
I recommend using FreeCAD instead of Blender and publishing the resulting model. Changes like changing dimensions and adding the pyramid are no problem with FreeCAD because it is parametric editor made for precise technical objects. It may be less convenient for “organic” shapes than Blender, although those can be modelled too.
I might look into that, thanks, but I already have experience with Blender.
Blender can do exact dimensions, too.
It looks great! How did you make the black lines?
I created a python script in blender to generate any size grid with any size width/heighth/linethickness. This is how I got it to be perfectly scaled. I didn’t finish the script so a few steps are manual(extending many rects at once and using the Blender “boolean tool” to remove their size from one large extended rect). I then have to add the shape to the goban. The main problem was in the printer, it took me a while to figure out how to get the lines thin enough. If black prints first, the lines are too thick. If the gold prints first, then the black is squeezed in between causing it to be thinner. I think there might also be other variables, but I am happy I finally got it to my liking, and hopefully others’.
Thank you.
I saw a similar one but 19x19 I believe, at the import shop from nihon kiin and such in Berlin (a few decades ago) As small as this, very nice indeed.
At that time I made the trip from France to there (Ditmar Hartung I think was the company name?), I was so ykyaga. I wanted to get shell and slate stones but guess what, not only. The place was amazing but this miniature I really loved it. They got nice prices as being wholesaler for European countries, but this one was far too out of my budget. 3d printers were still to be discovered. So I came back with stones and a pile of go world magazines but no miniature set.
Well I thought you might be interested in this brother .
Anyway nice job, guess you enjoy it!
That’s how they are in the real world manufacturing. I mean the big normal size
Oh that’s interesting, how much was it? Was it made of wood, slate, and shell?
Thank you
Yes was made of these materials. Really small maybe a bit smaller as yours (from my weak memory) and no sorry I don’t remember the prize besides it was too much for me.
I thought we ll need tweezers to play
