IGS chat - quick messages / automatic messages question

I’ve repeatedly seen the same message from my opponent on IGS at the start and end of games. I thought it was like those quick messages that we can set up on OGS but I can’t find any to configure it. Does anyone know where the settings are?

Twice I’ve received the stock “Thank you for the game” message, I reply with “thank you” and then they write back something like “thanks”. This makes me wonder if the first message from them was somehow automatic, and perhaps they couldn’t even see that they had sent an automatic message?

Yes, some IGS clients have auto-messages on game start/end.

Ah, I didn’t realise there was more than one client of IGS. I guess gopanda2 doesn’t have the option

The system is set up so that you can’t play your first move if you haven’t sent a greeting. So you’re probably sending your opponent a greeting automatically (although you don’t see it) just as they do to you (and they don’t see their automatic greeting either).

I think the iOS app for example auto sends a greeting when you place a stone.
