Invitation to Season 7 of the Werewolf Championship

Gia recommended I make a separate thread for this for visibility, so I’m doing so

I’m the head organizer of a very big Mafia (Werewolf) Championship tournament, featuring 150 different communities, and I would like to extend an invitation to your community.

The Mafia Championship is a super fun event that’s been running since 2013. Over the years, 320+ communities, 50+ nationalities and 770+ representatives have participated. More importantly, it has created strong bonds between communities, resulted in countless friendships, and it has even led to people getting married, believe it or not

The concept, to explain it very briefly, is that each community elects one person to go represent them in the Championship. I’d be stoked to see you guys represented, so if this invitation intrigues you, feel very free to share it with your fellow community members.

If you have any questions, just let me know.

INVITATION TO THE MAFIA CHAMPIONSHIP (SEASON 7)

Ahoy there!

I’m very excited to invite your community to participate in Season 7 of the Mafia Championship.

The Mafia Championship is an annual forum-based tournament series that pits representatives from various online Mafia (aka Werewolf) communities against one another as they compete to determine the Internet’s greatest forum Mafia player. Each participating community democratically elects one person to represent them and be their “Champion”.

The tournament first started back in 2013. Since then, 320+ different communities and 50+ different nationalities have been represented.

It’s a super fun event that has created many new friendships and close bonds between communities. I hope that you would be interested in taking part

 1. DO YOU ACCEPT THE INVITATION?

If your community wishes to participate, please confirm your participation to Lissa as soon as you can to ensure yourselves a spot. Currently, the plan is to accommodate 150 communities this season. If there is further interest, additional communities may sign up as substitutes; generally there are some replacements needed both before and during games.

If your community agrees to participate, the deadline for selecting your representative is April 27, but the sooner the better.

The games will take place on Mafia Universe. If it’s okay, I can link directly to the general discussion thread regarding this topic on Mafia Universe.

Important notes
[]You may decide yourselves how you want to elect your representative, but we highly recommend some sort of democratic process (public nominations followed by a poll usually works out well).[]In addition to electing a representative, you should also name an alternate who will be asked to step in if the first choice needs to back out.
Your representative should be prepared for having to read upwards of 500-600 posts per 24 hours during the early stages of the game. Additionally, there’s a requirement that each player must make at least 10 posts per Game Day. Only active players should apply/participate. I repeat: Your chosen player needs to be able to promise a good amount of activity on a daily basis.
1. SEASON 7 FORMAT

The tournament structure
[]150 communities will participate, each sending one representative.[]QUALIFIERS: 10 Qualifier Games will be played, consisting of 15 players each. I.e. every representative plays in one Qualifier Game. The players themselves vote post-game to determine who is deserving of advancement. 1st and 2nd place will advance to the Semifinal Games.[]SEMIFINALS: A Jury consisting of finalists from Season 6 will select 25 additional players to advance to the three Semifinal Games. From each game, five players will advance to the Finale Game based on a post-game player vote, just like in the qualifying phase.[]THE FINALE: The Finale Game is played. Once it has completed, the players vote to determine who shall receive the title of Season 7 Champion and a winner’s certificate signed by Dmitry Davidoff, the creator of mafia.
This year’s setup: JOAT^2

The setup is called JOAT^2 and features 15 players.

The setup consists of the following:

3x Mafia Goon

2x Town Jack Of All Trades (9x Doctor, 9x Motion Detector, 9x Tracker)

10x Vanilla Townie

Note that the Jacks Of All Trades must use all three actions before repeating an action, i.e. they are rotating. This does not mean they must use the actions in the same order every time.

Relevant mechanics info

 • Day start.

 • Majority lynch is enabled Day 2+, but majority is not required at any point in order to lynch.

 • Tied votes will result in a player being lynched at random from among the tied players.

 • No outside communication. I.e. you may not contact the other players outside of the thread (unless you are Mafia and wish to speak with your teammates).

 • Phase Lengths and Deadlines will be up to the players themselves (I’ll organize your representative into a game with deadlines that suit their preferences).

 • Thread is locked during Night Phases.

 • Votes are automatically locked in at LYLO.

 • Mafia factional kills are assigned. They can be tracked, watched, roleblocked, etc. (In this setup, that means they display as an action to the Tracker and the Motion Detector actions.)

 • Mafia share a factional Night Kill, which is a single standard shot for their faction. The mafia faction kill is mandatory.

 • Mafia may communicate at any time.

 • Each individual player may make a maximum of 150 posts per day phase (this restriction is lifted 2 hours before day end).

 • The game will have a host to oversee everything and make sure everyone’s following the code of conduct, but otherwise the game is completely automated (automatic votecounts, thread locks and reveals roles automatically, the bot receives and processes actions, etc.).

 1. SEASON 7 TIMELINE

There will be 10 Qualifier Games, and your representative plays in just one of these. They will have start dates ranging from late April to mid-June. So in other words, as long as your representative can play sometime during that period, they should be good and I’ll make sure they get scheduled into a game that suits their schedule well. I.e. if your rep is busy until June, that isn’t a problem.

The Semifinal Games will be played in July, and the Finale Game sometime in August/September (whenever we can work out something that suits everyone).

If you want to get in contact with me ASAP, you can find me on Discord (Lissa#8083).

Kind regards,

Lissa

Seems like someone i know :smirk:. This seems a like a serious event. Would this be held online in here?

It’s held online on the Mafia Universe forums! If it’s okay, I can link the general thread discussing the championship there

I don’t think anyone will mind, online communities should work harmoniously in these trying times.
As long as it’s not against our policies, that I’m sure it’d be better to check, posted somewhere on the site. :slightly_smiling_face:

It would be totally appreciated

Cool! I did double check the rules and it seems to be fine, so here is the link: https://www.mafiauniverse.com/forums/threads/25499-Season-7-General-Information

Hi everyone

I thought I’d also check in and say hello. I’m actually the guy who founded the Werewolf Championship way back in 2014.

I’d be super excited to see your community participate in this season. I’m always excited about new communities and the prospect of “widening” the werewolf world and bringing communities together.

So I also hope someone from here would maybe be interested in taking on the challenge and representing this site?

The deadline for someone volunteering is Apr 29. You don’t need to have much experience or live up to anything - other than wanting to have some fun

@Vsotvep What about you? Or maybe @yebellz ? Or @Gia ?

I am going to sign up right now
I think I am done signing up. Time for a reminder about the game I was trying to start up on here.

Thanks, but it seems a bit time consuming, although very fun.

Yeah, I like the more unofficial one we do on this forum.

Although I technically have the time to do it (and would actually like to play), I already know how all of my other projects will come to suffer from my absence, thus I’m glad @Haze_with_a_Z has so enthusiastically offered to represent our community.

Make sure you’ll play your role as a go player. Why not start every sentence with “As a go player” and then put in a go analogy to the situation you’re in:

“As a go player, I’m awfully aware of the severity of the current affairs, but I strongly suggest we vote in favour of a tenuki, as opposed to my untimely execution”

“As a go player, I would liken today’s mishaps to a particularly rejuvenating match played in the early twentieth century between the old master Shusai and Kitani of the shin-fuseki movement: clearly the werewolves are giving us a run for our money!”

What if I don’t know every single go term? I did see someone recently though that didn’t know what a liberty was or how to spell it. I don’t know what tenuki means, and I recognize the word fuseki, but also don’t know what that means. I might need a go term dictionary :no_mouth: I only know what a double hane(Ironically, I don’t know what a hane is) is, an atari, joseki, liberty, ladder, and then pieces like stones and the board, and then tengen I think is the middle of the board and then star points are the other dots(no clue if tengen is counted as one).
I am glad that everyone is ok with me doing this because it sounds fun, and something to occupy my time with instead of getting annoyed how no one is posting anything new on the forums around 11:45pm my time(or the 3hrs leading up to it) after I got eliminated from the sitewide tournament and didn’t feel like doing every correspondence move(although I did all of them after I checked).

Just make things up, you’re likely to be the only go player :stuck_out_tongue:

Or do some research, you might accidentally improve your go knowledge as well, two birds, one stone!

Strategy guide:

 1. Think of what you want to say
 2. Pick a word from this list and look up its meaning
 3. Think of a way to incorporate the word into what you want to say
 4. If step 3 fails, pick a different word

Or if you want, we can play a teaching game during which I’ll try to incorporate every go term imaginable :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

That is so intimidating :no_mouth:
In alphabetical order, “pincer” is the 200th term. I am not even going to continue counting after that. If I had to know all of these terms to play go, I would’ve given up after looking at the list.

Don’t worry about it, I barely know 1/3 of those terms

How??? I am confused about that

Send me an invite, and find out yourself! :stuck_out_tongue:

(hint: bluffing my way out of it)

(second hint: it’s a good strategy in Werewolf games too)

(third hint: also works in real life, up to a certain point)
