I notice a section for Ladders. I see a long list of names. Are they actually playing using ladders? And are they playing alive or in correspondence? Is there a place where one can actually practice ladders with another person? Thank you

Hello Ruben, I think there is some misunderstanding of the terms 
The sitewide ladder (you are probably talking about) has nothing to do with the capturing technique
But is just sort of a long term “top of the hill” championship where people are trying to beat as many players “above” them as possible to get the highest possible place. (and they are correspondence games)

Yet another reason we should start calling the capturing technique “stairs” or “twisting goat head”
