League Tournament

A few years ago (2020) I had this idea about creating a tournament in a league format, with players getting up and down trough some groups, and only the best player from the A group could challenge the tittle holder for the tittle (inspired by Hikaru no Go). But then I was waiting for players and it didn’t happened the way I was aiming.

But then I have my question. Is it possible to create this kind of tournament, without being manually operated? Like a system that will automatically move players up and down based on their record in their groups.

The problem remaining is time setting. In the correspondence format, it may take too long between rounds. In the live format it may be too difficult to synchronize the games automatically without anyone assigned to help.

If you want to participate you may try OSR league. There are others but some ask for a fee to register.

Anyway awesome idea.

That sounds a lot like the title tournaments which have been running since the dawn of ogs ^___^

Tho the title tournaments are all correspondence, and as Groin said, it will take a long time until each league is finished. We’re basically still playing the 2023 cycle at this moment >___>

Ah and to answer the actual question:
There is this “online league” thing to create tournaments with manual pairing, but i’ve never tested using it, so i’m not 100% sure it works anymore… I believe that for the title tournaments, gamesorry has set those up manually each time?

Thanks for your input. Indeed the time is a real issue, that’s why I thought that small leagues in a “single phase”, and being 9x9 wouldn’t take this long.

I looks the same but on the title tournaments we already have all the small leagues changes each term and some have more then one phase. What I am proposing is a league format with a promotion and demotion system, something like, the best 2 of each league advance to the next, the not so good two players are demoted to the previous league, and only the top tier on league A challenge the “title holder”.

And thanks for the link provided, I’ll take a closer look and see if it fits what I’m looking for.

Kuksu Main Title Tournament has league format. But it is manually operated.
