It’s not complicated. I believe our chance to roll more than 17 is far greater than our chance to win a Yahtzee.

Yes, but the amount of points that you get from a better chance is less than that of the Yahtzee. The low probability of a Yahtzee may or may not be enough to still be the optimal choice.

The probability of a Yahtzee in three rolls is 3.43%. The probability of Yahtzee occurring in three rounds is 9.94%. I prefer a high chance to win some extra points over a 9.94% chance to win 50.

50 × 9.94% = 4.97

If you expect at least 5 extra points, then it would make sense. In other words, that is justifiable if you thought that a Chance of 22 is a certainty.

Now, obviously it is not a certainty, but let’s say highly probable. I’m inclined to sway my vote if there is an expected value above 21.97
