Lower rating because of other boards

I wish to get better at the 19x19 but for that I would need stronger opponents and right now the system gave me 18kyu on 19x19 but bcs of my games on smaller boards I keep playing 25kyu players I know I could play smaller board to average it out but tbh I think I am strongest at the bigger board mainly because strategy is my strenght and not tactics so is there any way to filter my rating only to one board or some way to play according my 19x19 rating and not my average?

There is one way: create a new account on which you play only 19. Problem solved.

Or you can just keep playing 19x19 a lot of times. I think OGS ranks are given by ratios. For example, if you have a 19x19 rank of 10k and a 9x9 rank of 15, but you played 19x19 5 times and 9x9 only once, then you would have a rank of 10.83k.

That’s not how the ranks work. They’re each calculated independently based on qualifying games

Really? Because I saw a player (anonymous) with 4.9D 9x9, 5.3D 13x13, and 6.2D 19x19 with a real rank of 6.1D.

Why is that a counterexample?

That’s because when you do the math, (4.9+5.3+6.2)/3 does not equal to 6.1! And plus, there are definitely other profiles that supports my idea.

Why would the ratings being calculated independently result in them being related like this?

From my understanding, they do not calculate ranks for the individual boards, and then use those ranks to calculate the overall rank. They are all calculated individually. What I mean is, I think the 9x9 rank is claculated exactly the same as the overall rank, it just excludes all board sizes except 9x9. The overall rank just doesn’t exclude any.

EDIT: This is something that has been discussed a lot on the forum. I think the only way for it to change is if you take a look at the public code on github, write some code for how you think the rankings should be done, and then show that your code gives more desirable outcomes compared to the current system.

If you play mostly 19x19, then your overall ranks tends to be much closer to your 19x19 rank than your rank on other sizes.
