When you click “Toggle coordinates,” it cycles through six different coordinate displays: five where the coordinates are displayed in different positions, and one where there are no coordinates at all. I imagine most people who use this feature primarily only use it to turn the coordinates off or on. I think the positioning of the coordinates on the goban should be a setting in user preferences, and the “Toggle coordinates” button should simply be a binary on/off button.
I completely agree.
Something I proposed a few years ago, because on my mobile you don’t see at the same time the board and the toggle so I had to scroll up and down multiple times (and that even made me some missclicks)
Agree: the additional value of all those “just on left and top”, “on both sides and above and below” etc is far less than the tedium of lots of clicks. At least it doesn’t also cycle through Japanese/Korean/Chinese numbering too!
I’m sure if we change it to a “simple on/off toggle” then all those people who want one of the five variants that we have excluded that way will come up the hill with flails, pitchforks, and torches
PLUS then some will ask us to include C/J/K numbering too ![]()
p.s.: I prefer co-ordinates on all sides ![]()
Not necessarily a great reason to keep a status quo ![]()
Same
I’m okay with digging in settings for it, but I’m only supportive of this change if there’s still a way to select all sides!
My proposal wouldn’t be to only give the user one option for where to place the coordinates. It would just be to make it so that “Toggle coordinates” and “Board label positioning” are differentiated settings.
In user settings, the “Board label positioning” setting has the six available coordinate positionings, and includes “None” as an option. “Toggle coordinates” cycles through these options. I’m suggesting that “Board label positioning” be reduced to five options, with “None” removed, and an that additional option be added for having coordinates visible at all.
I suggest
In setting: different kind of labelling (not including the no label).
Note: this could in fact offer even more as what we have, like using kanji for ex.
Another place as “settings” could be where we can chose the textures of stones and board.
In the game page: a toggle label/no label
Wouldn’t it still be available in settings? Isn’t it already? I have it set to Japanese style and never change it, so as long as there’s a way to keep it the same in settings making an “on/off” toggle toggle on and off wouldn’t bother me in the least
I agree with it too. I toggle the coordinates on and off often and having to click so many times just to get the format I want is mildly annoying.
