Looking for people who would be interested in becoming the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of polgote.com (the booking platform for connecting students with teachers for the online Go lessons).
Requirements:
Experience in startup marketing
Knowledge of Go lessons’ market in the Far East
Ability to work for shares (no salary in the 1st year)
Goals:
(currently - before raising funds from investors) Getting new Go students onto the platform from among the Chinese, Korean and Japanese groups living in Europe and America
(later - after raising funds from investors) Getting new Go students in the Far East
Overall it is a good idea to hire someone for the job, but practically you ask them to be bad at that specific job. It is quite the hard-to-solve paradox.
You also want them to be one of the first investors, since they will invest their time and expertise and if the job does not pan-out, they will lose that investment.
In my opinion an experienced and successful marketer is a person who put aside big enough amount of money from their previous projects, to be able to survive for a year, while working over another project, which could help such a person become more successful. That’s whom I’m looking for
Yes, exactly. The better the company will work, the bigger the profit. That’s why such a person will have a bigger motivation to work better than if getting a regular salary.
Since you seem to be specifically targeting Chinese, Korean and Japanese people, my immediate idea would be to at least offer the website in those languages and find some additional teachers speaking these languages. That would potentially make the job for a CMO much easier as well.
As I said on the other thread, I really like this idea, but I’m not sure about the viability of hiring a marketing manager for year without a salary in today’s economy and in Europe, that doesn’t put startup culture on the level it truly deserves. I would recommend to start with something even smaller, part time marketing manager for shares to get the initial traction in the customer segment you want to target first.
These are the numbers since the launch of the platform.
The platform was launched in May 2024 (first for teachers - on 9th May - i.e. 2,5 months ago).
And the frequency of conducted lessons is going up
