Meta-standards in Go that irk you

I don’t think it’s about hemispheres. The two go clubs I attended (in the states) didn’t use clocks

I never used a clock in China besides tournaments ofc.

From my point of view, the biggest meta-standard that hinders the development of Go is the mass of online-only players. I understand that not in all part of the world a meeting is equally sensible or accessible, but where possible you should go outside, meet people to play in public and spread your love for the game. In the end, for quite some folks I met and taught over the years, Go is also about connections not only the game.

Before Internet we had no choice and spent so much time and effort to create some community of players.

In 2024 young génération get a cheap travel by calling where they are in 5mns, buy on the web and get their shopping home (and their dinner too), meet and discover new friends with app and almost always prefer to watch their screen as you sitting nearby in the subway.

That’s what I call a gap between generations
