And that you already played the first move of the solution: once you’ve played the atari and posed it as a problem the answer is obviously the ladder!

Yeah, you’re right. To be clear, I was only watching the game—either player would blow me away. The first move of the ladder actually started much earlier, I was watching for a ladder breaker for about 60 moves.
