New Landing Page Idea

Woahh aren’t you supposed to switch to table view at that point??

Supposed…? xD

Thumbnails are waaaay handier with multiple ongoing games, its nice to see what was the last move by the other player >___>

My guess is that’s what already appears on the homepage, when someone directly challenges you?

I think there’s various settings to control that up to a limit

No limit, apparently

Doesn’t it make sense to let the system show you the “most urgent” games first and focus on those?

(By the way, the design could be expanded upon by allowing pages of games, like this:)

Would corr players like this idea?

Yes absolutely, i think its super important that the games with least time are at the top! Tho i still want to see 16 thumbnails at once instead just 6 xD

Currently the thumbnails have paused games before games where the clock is running, especially on weekends thats bit annoying (but thats prolly a different issue)

Something with expanding arrows might be great! Most of the time i’m only checking my current games without any intentions to start any new ones, so if the list could stay expanded and be compacted whenever necessary that would be great addition ^____^

Edit: or move the ongoing games to profile page only and make that 6 thumbnails wide, scrap the current main page entirely, and have the updated /play page work as a main landing page.

Oh, I was just thinking the arrows might allow going through pages of games, but always 6/whatever at a time, but just now I thought it might be cool for corr players to have an option to expand the active games panel to take up more space of the page

So can you explain the benefit of seeing many games instead of the latest 6? Also I don’t think showing a lot on the same screen is a good idea when you take potential lag into account.

I like the arrows idea, but I would like to understand the needs of correspondence players a bit better first.

Start from a mobile phone screen? So that to be sure that all will fit well (like not pushing the limits on a desktop screen )

Less scrolling, more information visible at once, more effective usage of screen space xD

I will need a slight separate design for the phone. So let’s solve the desktop first and then the phone will be easier to change.

I edited this idea to my previous post, but prolly good to write it in new post since the previous one got already buried by newer ones:

Move the ongoing games to profile page only and make that 6 thumbnails wide, scrap the current main page entirely, and have the updated /play page work as a main landing page. That might work too

It feels more natural… if you’re this guy :yum:

I cannot speak on everyones behalf, but i assume most of us are way more interested on our own ongoing games, than seeing open challenges by other players. I/we want to see our own games as effectively as possible, also those where its our opponents turn.

Or a setting to choose between the play page or your profile page as the landing page. So people (who know what they are doing and care) can start at a page with their games (profile page with ongoing games) or (by default) start at a page to get a new game (automatch and custom)

Btw, custom game list needs filters so you can set specific things and immediately see games you’re interested in.

I just go into my game when it’s my move and I try not to think about them when it’s not my move

Ok, let see what i would put on a landing page

-the graph of the games offers
-the strongest players live game to watch (full board)
-the most urgent corr game i have to play (full board)
-an extract of the last forum post
-the last puzzle provided
-a proverb or extract of the day from some go resources, a meme sometimes
-last lines of english chat

All with a direct link if i want more on each.

And let’s not forget 2 or 3 explicit buttons for asking a game.

Should we do a multiple choice poll to see what people would like to see in their landing page?

(I guess you might be being sarcastic here, but I think it’s a good idea to brainstorm a bit more)

Edit: by the way, @Clossius1, the idea I’m personally gravitating towards here is to expand on the “let users choose their preferred landing page” idea, and design a handful of different templates for the landing page that a user can select from.

For example some players seem to resonate with KoBa and might want a page with just all of their active games (basically the current home), and if a lot of people want that, it makes sense to have it be one of the main options.

While I don’t have strong preferences as I’m not “offended” by having to use the nav bar, I would definitely prefer something close to your design proposal, and I think it would be a better welcome for newcomers :slightly_smiling_face:
