Intro
You may or may not have noticed the Learn to play go section. And if you tried the puzzles you encountered in my honest opinion a rather rigid system. In a thread sometime ago someone alerted me to this. So I tried it out, didn’t make me happy.
Rigidity
This showed in:
- when you solve a puzzle you are without hesitation directed to the next puzzle. No time to play with the puzzle some more, like finishing a sequence of moves or try out if there is maybe an alternative solution.
You are rushed into the next puzzle, while puzzles are in my opinion situations where being rushed is counterproductive. - if you made an incorrect move, you were at once bumped back to the begin situation. No possibility to undo a move.
- no hints possible. So if you are stuck, there is no help.
Ranks
The puzzles are varying from very simple (the 30 k absolute beginner) to beginners (20 K) who have an inkling what go is about.
The quality of the puzzles is good, but that rigid system is not.
I don’t know who put the puzzles in the Learn to play go section, but I want to give that person or persons a great compliment. That must have been a big project. Thanks!
Solution
Because of this unsympathetic rigidity I decided to put these puzzles (about ~ 2500 I think) into the OGS puzzles section (with hints, undo and deciding yourself when to go to the next puzzle).
Where to find
You can find these puzzle collection under the title O.G.S.: Learn to play go.
If you are wondering why O.G.S. and not OGS (without dots), the answer is simple: the system doesn’t allow names of puzzle collection to use OGS. Probably with a good reason, I guess.
Have a good day!
