Open Go History Lecture on Dec 9, 11:00-12:00 CET

For anyone interested in Go history, games, and East Asia, please note the upcoming online talk.

On Tuesday, 2025-12-09T10:00:00Z, Prof. Chihyung Nam (Department of Go Studies, Myongji University, South Korea) will give an online lecture on “The Origin of the Game of Go”.

The talk is based on her research for a book on the history of Go in East Asia, which I am currently translating into English at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin.

This event is part of the Ludic Languages of Asia lecture series, organised by board game historian Jacob Schmidt-Madsen, and no registration is required; the Zoom link is available here:

Feel free to share with anyone in your network who might be interested!

P. s. If everything goes as planned, the lecture will be recorded, while the Q&A will be off record. However, if your time allows, please show your support and join us live (with camera on or off).

The time zone conversion is sadly not favorable to me, but I’m looking forward to the recoding!

oh dang, I just saw the notice today (now Dec 10th, 9:20 AM in Berlin) - when and where will the recording be available?

You can listen to this episode first, she basically talked about the same thing, just with PowerPoint presentations

Thanks. Is the PowerPoint presentation / file available?

They said the recording will be available, but didn’t say about the powerpoint, you might need to email Prof Nam and ask.
