Pedantle, aka Wordle Shiritori

colis (parcel, french).

covis

I won’t blitz the next one, just wanted to play this cool Portuguese word.

It’s the plural of covil, which can mean

  1. the lair of a wild beast
  2. the hideout of criminals
  3. a brothel

Bovis (declension of Bos = cow, latin).

Hovis :bread:

A British brand of bread, est. 1886

Ovis
Latin for sheep
Apparently both the slavic word for sheep (ovets) and the latin one go back to the same proto-indo-european word despite for some reason entering protoslavic/protobaltic with ts.

omis

The accusative form of “they” in Volapük, for a male or mixed gender group.

I’ll break down the Volapük pronouns in another post, since they’re pretty cool.

Feel free to continue playing.

Actually, I’ll discuss it in LLL.

amica (girlfriend, female friend, Italian & Latin)

LatDict also includes the senses of “courtesan”, “mistress” and “concubine”.

“amica” doesn’t mean “girlfriend” in Italian.

Amico (friend)

amigo

amino

Wiktionary lied to me, then.

So amica is just “female friend”? What’s the word for girlfriend?

“Fidanzata”, or “ragazza”. It would be weird to have the same word for “friend” and “girlfriend”, no?

Amido (amid, Italian)
