Petition: Shin Jinseo vs AlphaGo Lee (2016)

Hello everyone,

I have created a petition proposing what I believe would be one of the most interesting matches in Go history:

Shin Jinseo vs AlphaGo Lee (2016) under the exact same conditions as the Lee Sedol match.

The goal isn’t to prove humans are stronger than AI.

It’s to answer one historic question:

How much has human Go improved since AlphaGo?

If you think this match deserves to happen, I’d be grateful if you could sign and share the petition.

Petition for Shin Jinseo vs AlphaGo Lee match to happen

The question is how to recreate the exact same AlphaGo Lee?

Having spoken to Demis Hassabis some years ago at talks about AlphaGo, I can tell you this isn’t going to happen.

It’s like asking who would win between Magnus Carlsen and Deep Blue. We will speculate forever.

How this is interesting, would you like to elaborate on why this is so unlikely?

  1. AlphaGo Lee (software, hardware, people) doesn’t exist anymore
  2. Their priorities have moved on
  3. PR is important, stupid media would report “Google loses to human” even if we know it’s not strongest AlphaGo.

I asked him if he thought FineArt had now surpassed AlphaGo Zero in strength and, would we see it in any computer go competitions, he said he was sure if DeepMind devoted its resources to it they could win, but they wouldn’t as they had moved on to other things (like AlphaFold at the time, won him a Nobel).
