placement of stone question from the idiot.

start of game my opponent places his second stone on the opposite corner as his first on the second stone being k4 — should i place my third stone on l3 or k5 or j4 to get control of his corner simple ask but iam really confused as i have placed it in various games on all three and lose points because of my placement where should i place a control stone in that corner to gain or at least take away his control of the corner

It doesn’t matter really where you place it: any one of the locations you described is fine.

What matters is what you plan to do next, and how you respond to what they do next.

If you don’t understand the rules of the game - how capture and scoring work - then you are asking the wrong question “where do I place my stone”.

The correct question is “how does this game work?”.

The answers to that question can be learned here - by doing lessons and gaining understanding.

The answers to this question can alternatively be learned by placing stones and seeing what happens, as you are doing. It takes modern AI about 20 million games to learn how to beat Dans this way.

For humans, learning the rules from lessons and understanding usually more effective.

Doing something that absolutely doesn’t make any sense is idiotic, right?

Like genuinely trying to learn playing tennis while at the same time refusing to pick up the racket.

Or like genuinely trying to learn playing Go while at the same time refusing to think about your moves.

Both things absolutely don’t make any sense.

While I don’t think I’ve ever seen you play a game where you didn’t place most of your stones without much thought, I can’t firmly conclude that your behavior is idiotic, since I don’t know whether you’re genuinely trying.

I can assure you I am trying – but just trying not to be an idiot and just being a idiot are toooo very different things. do you think?
