playing for money ?? is it possible on line???

While playing a game, my opponent reached out and mentioned that he plays for money. He couldn’t understand why I didn’t want to finish the game, and I told him, instead, as I preferred to reach a goal I had set and then move on to the next game. And next goal, one stone at a time, I called it - he said to me then How do I earn money? Here, I said I didn’t think any did that, he said Of course they do

iam never going to beat anyone in the near future, so I’m not thinking of making money let alone winning a game – but i find it curious he would say that like it was a matter of fact i should know this — is this a thing ??? can some of you make money playing a game that can be broken by a.i how fair is it, or was he just pulling my leg like a lot of you do here in forums on me. just interested thats all back to games now

OGS does not offer any sort of gambling or playing for money features.

It may be possible that some people are gambling on OGS games, with money exchanged through other channels, but I would guess that is incredibly rare and I’m not aware of any specific instances of that happening.

I thought as much, but the way he put it, it was a common occurrence here, that’s what surprised me

I would imagine that someone trying to frame it as a common occurrence is likely trying to hustle you.

i agree,— and i am pretty gullible

Having read the game chat in question, I don’t think so, just 2 people with poor communication skills not understanding each other.

you can request betting system on OGS, where the audience can watch your live game while put their money on bet. the loser audience will lose their money. the player who win the game get 10%, and the winner audience get 90% (divided by total audience) plus get their money back

I am VERY glad that OGS is not doing this.

Oh, I see I didn’t know that could be done here – thanks for the input – how does the site stop people from cheating with AI software now it’s so good and can even hide your moves to look like real players, etc etc.

It’s not implemented at all, it’s just an idea from the contributor.

If you really wanna, just exchange Cashtags or Venmos or something.

I guess we are talking about fake money, like Fox Coins, and you can exchange the coins for avatars and …no idea what you can do with fox coins xDD

To save anyone curious the trouble, it was this chat in dokbohm vs. Wanted it

[15:19] Wanted it[25k]: But i get money before
[15:19] dokbohm[25k]: ???
[15:19] Wanted it[25k]: In Go
[15:20] dokbohm[25k]: do not understnd ?
Move 107
[15:21] Wanted it[25k]: I got money. Like 5000.or20000 when we races Go
[15:21] Wanted it[25k]: You have to sing up
Move 110
[15:23] dokbohm[25k]: really didn’t know that
Move 111
[15:23] Wanted it[25k]: But you have tget 1 2 3 places
[15:23] dokbohm[25k]: never heard of any one making money in go before
[15:23] Wanted it[25k]: Just search it in Google
&c

It sounds to me more as though Wanted it (currently known as Archi.pG) was referring to tournaments with prizes for the first 3 places.
