Problems in the Translation Contribution Process

Hello, I am a Korean who loves OGS.

In Korea, Tygem is the most famous Go platform, but I think OGS is a much better service from the perspective of ‘Baduk(=Go) Lover’.

However, there’s something I’m disappointed about the translation status of the site. (Of course, I’m not talking about the translation perspective right now. If there’s a separate channel where I can talk to users who contribute to Korean translation, I’ll explain it in more detail there.)

Therefore, I want to contribute to the translation, but there is one problem.

I’m not sure where the target text I’m trying to translate is coming from on the site.

Of course, Pootle site is providing information about ‘context’ or ‘location’, but this does not kindly explain where on the site you can see the text.

Given the specificity of translation that words or sentences with the same form in the starting language should be completely different words or sentences depending on the context in the arriving language, it is very important to understand in what context the text you want to translate is in.

Of course, the English-Korean translation situation is so advanced that there are very few inconveniences to actually play it. Nevertheless, I’d like to know some information about this because this part affects not only Korean but also translations about other languages. Is there anything I’ve missed?

  • I’m Newbie, who has only studied Baduk for a month, but I have a professional knowledge of Korean language and culture. So I also welcome discussions about Korean language and translation.

In particular, I read this post from About the phonology of the Korean word "Baduk" with great interest.

Anyway, have a great day!

I guess for visual context, the interface looks something like

and the location is only specified by a file name, something something .tsx, which maybe will correspond to the url online-go/name but I guess depending on the user this might not be clear, but also, if it’s something like a game page or play page which has a lot of elements it’s also not clear where this would pop up on the page.

Maybe the site can generate a link to follow to see the location on OGS when possible?

Not sure what else in an automatic sense anyway
