Black to play
Problem
Black to play.
I think this problem is not correct.
When black plays B18, white can play A16.
This should be a white to play problem when black plays B18.
Both the puzzle and the solution are identical to what the book says.
It is not clear to me why you think this should be a white to play problem. In the Hashimoto book this is labelled as a black to play puzzle.
I’m saying that the solution is incorrect. Can you refute my move in the variation I posted?
Many books have errors. If it’s an old book then the chances are higher.
No, I can’t. The solution in the book is apparently incorrect.
Never experienced this before. Wow.
Disclaimer: I am not a very talented SDK player
Yep, it is a book from 1980.
I will try to find a better solution and correct this in my collection.
Thx (also for your patience).
I don’t think there’s a better solution, which is why I suggested changing the problem to white to play after black plays B18
I am doubting whether this is a liberty I can or should take.
I don’t think the suggested solution works. If black H19, white D19 lives.
Just out of curiosity, how is the difficulty level determined? I feel this might be pretty hard for a 10k.
