Black to play.
From the game I just played, since I can’t keep track of all the different tsumego threads any more.
By only the 31st move, in a blitz game, I’d already been thrust into a scorching fight, in which I had to consider the moves A–E.
E fails to wE D+ C B+.
C fails to wC D.
B was my game attempt. It fails to wB+ A (M18 C+ D E+ or E D+ C R18+).
A fails tactically to wA+ B (C D+ or D E or D C E S17). It does, however, provide a chicken-out sequence wA+ B M18 C L16.
The key move is D. If wD C then wD C E S17 B+ A O19 and White lives.
The interesting variation is wD E. In that case, wD E A+ B C+ M18+ and Black has to crawl westwards on the second line until he has enough liberties to capture the White stones.
Also, note that with only an isolated hoshi in the top right, and the bottom empty, the “taisha declined” noseki played by Black in the top left “only” takes his winrate to 35–40%.
